This is an important post to write.

It is also very hard.

I have a young friend who is not quite 17. She has gone in and out of depression many times in her young life. She is loved by so very many.

But she isn't as loved by herself as I so want her to be.

I had her read these posts last week:

I made her listen to THIS song:
And despite love from many, a hug from me and being an amazing girl, she doesn't feel worthy. Her thoughts go to a dark place mine have never gone.

I am so proud of her for knowing she needs help. It's can't be easy when the bad thoughts overtake the good. I am so proud of her mom, who remains calm during these periods of times when her daughter doesn't feel she has anything to live for. I am so proud my young friend knows she can tell her mom when it's all just too much. There's the love.

We live in a stressful world.

I firmly believe the teens of today have it much harder than I ever did. I didn't have social media capturing my every move. I didn't have harassment via text or Twitter or Facebook. Conversely, the resources available for help weren't as easy to find either.

Jenny Lawson, AKA The Bloggess, writes so eloquently about depression and suicide. THIS post was written on September 10, 2012, which is World Suicide Prevention Day.

I am taking this directly from Jenny's post:
"If you or someone you know is thinking of suicide call 800-273-TALK, or click here for resources."

And so, today, I ask you to think kind thoughts about my young friend. To really look at your own kids and make sure they're in a good place. To look inside yourself and know you are worthy, beloved, amazing and indeed, a gift to the world.

Be well, my sweet friend. I can't wait to hug you. xo

This song is just for YOU ~ lyrics HERE.
(I know you like when I give you the lyrics.)
Once again, I ask you to share this post - you never know who may need the support.

UPDATE 2-4-13 - my young friend is back home. You can read her mom's blog piece about that HERE.

Thank you Jenny. You, of all people, know the darkness my friend is in. I just want her to crawl out of it to the light.

Love, light and insane laughter to you at all times!

and in life there is ups and downs all people should know this, hearts get broken, dreams don't come true and that big time job goes to someone else. People don't like you and friends hurt you more than you though possible, so what do we learn, you to have to believe in yourself, you can call it a lot of things, vanity, conceit, ego but you have to belief, thats a saving grace, I am the person I have have to live with. Most of the time I love me but with ups and downs that guy in the mirror isn't always right but I have the power to go out and live life, enjoy the journey

John ~

All of that is true. And thankfully, there are medical facilities and doctors and professionals who can help those people who are too bruised and fragile to find it within themselves to see how amazing they are when times are really hard.

I hurt for so many of our teens these days. They live in a difficult world and need to find their path so that their own special light can shine. <3

So true, Barb.

I think when they are hunkered down with their electronics versus hanging out with friends in real life, they get more than a little caught up in the craziness of technology.

We have a sit down family dinner once a week - sometimes more depending on the schedules of everyone, but I know it allows me to take the pulse of what's going on and who's doing what. (For the record, so does my friend and her family - except they eat together most every night...there are still young kids around who aren't going here, there and everywhere!)

We also do chat throughout the day and as we are all coming and going, but the human interaction is so important.

I know you do the same at your house.

It's the feelings of unworthiness that make a person so fragile and so tender.

I thank goodness for tremendous medical leaps and greater understanding of the human condition.
