Empower

I love the IDEA behind this thought.

I HAVE made changes in the past. Some have been necessary. Some have been scary. Some of been delightful. I would absolutely say I am an empowered person. I have a pretty strong sense of who I am but I still share the same fears that so many others do.

Sometimes, change truly paralyzes me. HOW do I go about taking complete charge of my own life when I am afraid. Big changes are scary. Big changes are expensive. (At least in my case.) I don't have the financial means necessary to do so. I don't really think that's losing my power as much as facing my reality.

My friend Cara wrote THIS blog post today. I find we tend to write things that piggy back off of each other more often than not. Cara's pieces are always so beautifully and thoughtfully written.

Cara's piece ends with these words, "Come to your edge, and maybe you will fly."

That's really what the point of being empowered is. To fly. To take a risk. To believe deeply in yourself while being in control of what you do.

Empower
Empower yourself to take full and complete charge of your life. Reclaim the personal power that you never should have lost in the first place - and come to know that you never really did. Feel the breadth of your own power: the power to feel deeply, the power to trust your own voice, the power to create and bring forth life. Learn the true meaning of power: how to use it and not abuse it; how to stand in your power without stepping on anyone else's.  Summon up the inner will to co-create meaningful and joy-filled lives. Empower yourself to take control of your financial life and to prevent others from taking control of your emotional life. Remember: you have the power to empower, and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise has absolutely no power over you.

Have you seen this video making it's way around the Internet? It is young Mush, going to the edge, being guided by people who are inspired as well as inspiring, and literally, we get to watch him fly. Take a few minutes to watch it. HE is such a brilliant example of seeing someone so empowered it takes your breath away.

Who doesn't know what I'm talking about
Who's never left home who's never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own

Using your power isn't always something grandiose - I'm going back to school! In starting my own business! I'm changing my kids path, I'm separating, I'm moving!- we have more power than we think in everyday smaller scale ways. All these things involve you taking over more responsibility over a situation, maybe one that you allowed to take over a lot of your thinking or time. But, in small ways, responsibility feels just as good. And if you are true to yourself and make your daily decisions in a way that represents your values, your ethics and your will, it feels like flying! People will ask you to do things that you don't feel are right, or you may not fully agree with-to do them may not have much of a consequence and you all move on, maybe you remain in another's favor. But time after time, you are less of yourself and have given yourself away to another. So the less grandiose power is to take YOU back bit by bit and represent YOU in all those little decisions, that can be as hard as hard as some of the big ones. You can be powerful everyday.
