I Feel Pretty

My mom posted this on her FB wall yesterday and it just cracked me up

Working at the beauty parlor, (you have to say "beauty parlor" in JUST the right voice...) has given me a greater appreciation for humans and how we perceive we look.

When people call for appointments, I cannot tell you how many of them tell me how awful they look while we are on the phone. Then they come in the door, and honestly, they don't look all that bad - at least to me. When they leave, they ALWAYS feel and look beautiful.
There is a mirror behind the desk and it is a magic mirror. People just gaze at themselves as they check out. The BEST part of it? They LIKE what they see! I love that; I love that they see themselves as gorgeous.

I hate when I tell someone they look beautiful and they scoff at it. Seriously people, learn to just say, "Thank you."

I have a friend, Lisa, who told me more than ten years ago, "If I look good, I feel good!" She would come to classes fully made up, in her high heeled shoes (we always knew it was Lisa coming down the stairs) and even if her day was crappy, she felt better than if she had just thrown on some sweats, pulled her hair into a pony tail (her hair is short so she couldn't do that...but, you get my point), and looked as miserable as she may have felt.

I have used Lisa's philosophy more than a few times in my life. Mascara CAN make the difference. I guess for the men out here, shaving CAN make the difference. A little extra effort on our outside self WILL make the difference on our inside self.

Still, I laugh every time I see this...

Enjoy your day - you're gorgeous!

I literally just quite nearly spewed coffee...
THIS is fabulous!

Oh. My. Goodness. I loved the post, but I laughed and smiled over the Adam Sandler clip. So funny.

I have to say, however, that I am one of those people who scoffs if someone tells me I look nice (including my husband). Can't accept it. I usually find something wrong me with to highlight at that moment. And I almost never look in the mirror -- even after a hair cut at the salon -- and feel beautiful. Even after writing a whole book on this topic (self-image), I still can't shake that ingrained (bad) habit. It's terrible what we do to ourselves. Thanks for this post, and for starting my day with a smile.

:-)

Ah Mary, you will have to drive two hours south to the beauty parlor so you can see yourself in the magic mirror and KNOW you are beautiful. Because, let's face it - you are.
