I have a feeling my November blog is going to be a mishegoss of thoughts and ideas. Gratitude will do that do you. Especially when you're going about discovering it and thinking about it and writing about it in non traditional ways.

Hence, my word of the day. Taken from a book that captures so perfectly certain words. Which can be built upon. And reflected on.

In addition to my own words, I am participating in a group being facilitated by my friend Lain that asks you stop...and think and write or paint or sketch or photograph...about a word or thought for the day.

I can tell already it will not always be easy. Yesterday's word was "STUCK." I had an early morning therapy session with that word this morning.

And so, on this Saturday, as I head off to work, I think about what I have inherited from my family over the many generations. The good. The bad. The ugly. The beautiful. And what gets me stuck.

How about you? xo

Inherit
Inherit your grandmother's twinkling eyes, her recipe for blintzes. Inherit your father's laugh, his whistle, his strong yet gentle way. Inherit your mother's legs, the dancer's legs. Inherit her willingness to stand up for what's right, her courage to speak out when no one else will. Inherit Aunt Madge's poker face, Nana's unfailing tenacity, your Uncle Willie's half-sister's faith and devotion. Inherit everybody's stories, a couple of skeletons, and who knows how many secrets. Inherit the family smile, that unmistakable nose, the freckles and the dimples, and oh, that hair! Inherit the pie of old pictures and protect them until someone, someday, inherits them from you.

Short but SO good!
It makes you want to hear more, right?

Are we implying that everything you're lined up to inherit is graceful and good? :) Sometimes I wish I could shop around at my estate sale, but more often than not I acknowledge my similarities and love them because they are mine. My crooked smile, my rounded rear, my fearlessness when I'm challenged, my calm when I'm teaching. My Sicilian temper, my skill at compartmentalizing my turmoil. Thanks guys! I see me in you and God bless that moment when at first, you saw you in me.

ME? Implying graceful and good? Not at all. I have inherited a lovely batch of mental illness and obesity. I have also inherited compassion and kindness and the truest sense of the word, "love."

THIS is actually a good thing and one I wish I could do more, ...my skill at compartmentalizing my turmoil"
