The Best Is Yet To Come?

I am one of the annoying people who tends to always look at the bright side. It drives the pessimists in my life batshit crazy. I have found it makes it easier to skip through the day if I have a decent attitude.

With that said, if you've been reading a while, you know it ain't always pretty here in Maggie's World. Still, I do what I can to feel fabulous most of the time.

Right now, I have so many friends, in so many different areas of my life, dealing with an awful lot of "stuff." I can't do a lot about most of it except keep them in my thoughts, give them a hug if they're local or send them cyber healing.

I don't know if "the best if yet to come." Does that then mean that right now isn't the best? Herein lies the great confusion. What do *you* think?
I've got plans for you baby

In August of 2001 I had a 40th birthday party for myself at my apartment in NYC. My family and friends came from all walks of my life. I really believed then that the best was yet to come. I was in a great space and loving life. One month later my Dad was medevaced back to NY from a cruise he was on with some weird never determined virus that left him delusional for a few days and he was never healthy again (he was suffering from lymphoma and was on some weird bio-therapy) and 9/11 happened two days later from which I lost a very dear friend and everything else that went along with 9/11. I can honestly say that "the best is yet to come" has never crossed my mind again.

I will say that many wonderful and beautiful things have happened since and I'm grateful for every one of those moments. I think the best is NOW! At every little detail of love, beauty, insight, affection, sound (MUSIC), smell, smile, movement, laugh, connection we experience we need to revel in because everything in the future is an illusion.

Sometime during my Dad's long and drawn out illness I gave him a little rock (or something like that) that said "Hope" on it and he cried like a baby. He was so afraid of what he was going through and he needed someone to literally give him hope.

Hope is an interesting word. And in hope and faith I can look toward my future and in the meantime put one foot in front of the other and in enjoy NOW whatever is around me good bad or indifferent. Because even in the bad times there is much good and I have an eternal perspective so that even in the bad I believe I do not have all of the information to make an informed decision about what is going on at any given moment.

As you know I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and they have something called "The Articles of Faith" the 13th Article reads "We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

So....I live now, I try to focus on what is positive, good, lovely and hope that whatever the future brings me I will have the strength and wisdom to endure it then.
